Writing

This is a press release for Ohio University’s first undergraduate-produced feature-length film Trailerpark. This release led to our feature story on the front page of the Life section of the Columbus Dispatch.

This is a press release just distributed in recognition of Trailerpark’s acceptance into the Cleveland International Film Festival, showing March 19, 20, and 21.

An assignment for the course Journalism 370: Publicity and Media Relations, this is a fictitious news feature written on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association.

An assignment for the course Journalism 233: News Writing, this is a news story I wrote as a reaction piece to the influx of political activity Athens experienced in the run-up to the primary elections.

In addition to traditional news and press release writing, I have extensive experience writing for video. As the head writer of student-run comedy show Fridays Live for four seasons, I was able to sharpen my writing for the screen week after week. This piece was done as a part of the 2010 PRSSA Bateman Competition, where I get to demonstrate not only my writing skills, but also my producing, directing, acting, editing, graphic design, and music composition (or Garageband arrangement, rather) skills.

Design

Again, as a part of Journalism 370: Publicity and Media Relations, this is a newsletter I designed and wrote on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association.

A piece from the course Journalism 471: Public Relations Principles, this is our group’s CSR Plan in which we fictitiously partnered Apple with the Deafness Research Foundation to show Apple’s awareness and commitment to remedy claims that the iPod contribute to Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). The content was largely a group effort, but I was given the opportunity to put everything together in a clean and interesting way.

Social Media

My first endeavor utilizing social media tools, I was given the opportunity in the spring of 2008 to act as a social media marketing director for a new web series for Comedy Central’s Atom.com, Benny Escaped Convict. In a span of three weeks, I was able to drive more than 1,000 users to the show’s Facebook group. If only pages were active at that time…

I have also utilized social media and blogger communities like Brazen Careerist to help drive traffic to the blog on this very site. In fact, using a targeted “Tweet” with popular microblogging platform Twitter directly led to me securing an internship at Weber Shandwick in Chicago.
